We know that the mouth is a gateway to good health, and that the healthier our gums are, the better off the rest of our body will be.
But how much more there is to it?

Preventive gum disease with good oral hygiene is an easy way to help ward off heart attacks, strokes, impotence, wrinkles, some cancers, and certain pregnancy complications.

As new findings, people who consume plenty of dairy products, especially yogurt, are less likely to have gum disease. Researchers in Japan now say this may be thanks to the lactic acid in foods such as yogurt and some cheeses. The healthy bacteria in these foods seem to control the growth of bad bacteria. Consuming just a quarter cup of yogurt a day, for example, can help reduce your risks. Of course, brushing and flossing also help.

Another tip is that smoking is a major cause of gum disease,
and a new study suggests that marijuana is also bad for your gums. Toxic substances in the smoke likely hinder the body's ability to fight inflammation.

I have to get 10cavities, 5extractions, root canal correction and a 1 tooth implant. If this is not done then I will probably have a heart attack from gum disease within my lifetime.
I have to get 10cavities removed, 5extractions (1 tooth is almost lost due to an untreated cavity.. If the tooth is not extracted than I will develope gum disease.), root canal correction and a tooth implant.
I do not want to die at the age of 69 because I did not get the dental work done…

Absolutely not. I can think of only two reasons that it could be. One, if you're at immediate risk of gum disease, or smoke/chew, etc. or two, if you've got millions and millions of dollars just to blow uselessly and are paranoid or bored.

Gum disease simply isn't that big of a risk if you practice good dental hygeine and don't do things that are immediately detrimental to your gums (like smoke/chew tabacco, etc.)

Doctors say that the disease can be controled, but it will always remain with you for the rest of your life. What exactly this means and how confident I can be that with proper care I can have my teeth for life? Is there any hope for permanent cure?

A gum specialist (periodontist) will help you.
The aim is to clean up the gums to return them to good health. Any bone loss that has occurred cannot be reversed, but you can HALT the disease and prevent further damage. Because you have had this damage, it makes you more likely to have it again if you don't MAINTAIN your teeth as per instructions from the periodontist. So it is a permanent cure if you look after the result. The treatment doesn't make you invulnerable!
The most important thing is to seek treatment ASAP (just like any health problem), and your chances of success in the long term will be better.
All patients I have referred have been very happy with the results, and wish they'd done something about it sooner.
PS - mouthwashes will not help you.

The child is now 13 but has never brushed her teeth. Is a dentist like a doctor and obligated to contact social services about it?

A dentist is someone who is defined by most states as a "mandatory reporter." This means that if a professional observes what he/she feels to be neglectful/abusive behaviors on behalf of the parents toward the patient, then he/she is obligated to report this to Child Protective Services. A report of this nature would probably not be investigated - most states have much more pressing issues to deal to address with regard to abuse and neglect. If I were to observe a patient that had 13 cavities, but the parents appear genuinely interested in getting the child treatment - it wouldn't warrant a report. Most parents do not have the financial resources to get regular dental treatment for their children - this isn't neglectful. Hopefully, the parents will be provided with an opportunity to get education regarding proper dental care for their children as well as the opportunity to get routine, affordable, dental care. Hope this helps!

Neem is a new discovery in modern times. But it has been used by the Arabs and Indians for centuries….! Often the small branches of the Neem tree were and still are being used today as modern day tooth brushes.

Many manufacterers are using Neem in their peridontal products esp toothpaste etc and homeopathic manufacturers makes homeopathic mother tintures for same ailments but for internal medicine.

It apparently runs in my family. We all take care of our teeth but everyone in my family has been diagnosed with it. Most of them were way older then me when they were diagnosed.

Hey, it's not so bad! Since you've only just found out you have periodontal disease I'm guessing you haven't had it very long, so I imagine the 'fixing' will consist of a few sessions of fairly vigorous digging about to get rid of deep-seated plaque. This sounds nasty, but you can opt for a pain-killing injection or just take 2 paracetamol an hour before your visit. If you're actually due for more intensive, surgical treatment, your dentist would have told you what you need to know. Otherwise, just give him a bell and ask. Good luck!
